The size of the mortar is H 12cm x 8.5cm.
This is a superb large French porcelain hand painted and gilded Apothecary Jar and cover which dates, I would guess, from the late 18th. In a cylindrical form topped with a knopped conical cover, decorated with copious hand painted gilded images of a foliate swags, the Caduceus (two snakes wrapped around a winged staff), and what looks to be a mortar above, and gilded banding throughout.
Good used condition: Pestle is slightly bent. We research every single item and aim to provide as much information as possible about its history and provenance.
