Delft Holland Handmade Pill Tile Commissioned by Burroughs Wellcome Co in June, 1984 to honor the achievements of the modern pharmacist in GUC ! Measures approx. 5 3/4″ square. Have this framed for the new pharmacy graduate or for a Delft Collector ! Pill tiles, used to prepare medications, were awarded to pharmacists after training to honor their scholastic excellence and important function in the community. The 17th century pharmacist illustrated on this pill tile is preparing medication according to instructions in his medical textbook. The still on the oven heats the ingredients, and the hourglass helsp him to calculate how long the drugs should be pounded and stirred. This handmade tile from Delft, Holland, is part of a limited edition commissioned by Burroughs Wellcome Co. to honor the achievements of the modern pharmacist. Very nice glazed tile with a few very minor nicks. 2.5mm nick on the left edge; 1mm partial chips on the 2 left corners; this was in an awful frame, which was discarded; has a hanger on the back; so, can be framed or hung-up by itself.
